Irish crochet worked in a line.
Combining pieces and joining motifs
Irish crochet motifs are made as individual pieces. These motifs are often worked in the round and are joined to each other either by making linking pieces of chain, working pieces in a line or by sewing them together. These three joining methods are often used in conjunction with each other. See here for details of some different methods of joining pieces together.
Working a background mesh
Working areas of chain around a motif is a traditional Irish crochet technique. It is pretty intricate work, but can produce stunning fabrics.
